About Angels in Gumboots
Morunga's crafting hub, Angels in Gumboots provides a bright, comfortable and airy space for people to come and work on their projects, and runs workshops and classes. Specialising in retreats for individuals and groups, the craft hub is also serviced by the in-house cafe Hazelnuts & Rhubarb @ Morunga.
The name ‘Angels in Gumboots’ comes from local people doing good and practical things for their community, and our local community certainly does a lot for each other. That is where our roots are, and will continue to be.
We have a large range of quality fabrics, threads, notions and haberdashery, as well as kits and patterns. Main brands include: Dear Stella, Robert Kaufman, Moda, Riley Blake, a large range of Gutermann threads, an even larger range of DMC embroidery threads, buttons galore, Clover, Schmetz, and Olfa. As well as our own Angels in Gumboots patterns, we also have patterns from The Quilting Cowboy, Smee Designs, The Rivendale Collection, Lynette Anderson, Castilleja Cotton and Mary Hickmott.
As a craft hub we have space for you to bring your current project and work alongside others in a bright, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. We also hold workshops and classes on a wide variety of sewing and crafting topics.
So, whether you are a quilter, embroiderer, a knitter, a spinner, or simply starting out, we want you to feel welcome. Hopefully, you will find yourself inspired and encouraged.
Helen is the proud owner of Angels in Gumboots – Craft Hub, and the face you will see when you walk through the door.
Although a dab hand at patchwork and quilting, Helen enjoys hand-work – namely cross-stitch and embroidery. Her Grandmother told her that “it keeps the hands busy, but the mind free”.
A Manawatu local and mother to a lively toddler, Helen took on the opportunity (and the challenge) of Angels in Gumboots as a way to balance family life with being a part of the local community. Plus, she gets to go to work doing her hobby! Lucky!
Helen’s vision for Angels in Gumboots is to see it grow as a crafting hub for the local community, embrace needlecraft of all kinds, be a one-stop for sewing needs, and to keep the personal touches that make buying small and local magical. The reputation of being warm, welcoming, friendly, as well as top-quality in everything Angels in Gumboots offers, is key.
Other faces you might see include a photo of Angela, Helen’s Grandmother. She is largely responsible for beginning Helen’s crafting journey when she taught her how to cut with scissors at the age of three. Helen then enthusiastically practised on her mother’s collection of DMC threads… uh oh! You’ll also find some Werther's Originals in fond memory of Helen’s Grandfather, Gordon. Enjoy! Helen’s parents, Catherine and Allister, are regular faces and an inspiration for her. If you are lucky you may even meet Helen’s son, Theodore. It really is a family affair, and what sets Angels in Gumboots – Craft Hub apart. So, come along and be a part of our Angels in Gumboots family.
