About the Event

Advent is a season of expectation and preparation, as we get ready to celebrate the coming (adventus) of Christ. It is a time of reflection, anticipation, and hope.

For Advent 2020 The Oratory @ Mōrunga is collaborating with Angels in Gumboots to provide a crafty alternative to the traditional lighting of Advent candles. This is a fantastic little project easy to complete in the lead-up to Christmas.

The hanging is a combination of traditional machine piecing, hand or machine applique, embroidery, and quilting. Using a Dresden Plate we create the evergreen wreath to symbolise the eternity of God. Using applique the four candles are sewn onto the wreath together representing the four weeks of Advent. Each candle is then ‘lit’ creating the anticipation and final celebration of the coming of Christ.

Each week your flame will be sent to you along with a special Advent Reflection and Prayer prepared by Fr Allister Kelley OSFS MST. You are also invited to attend our Advent church services and light the real thing.

$20.00 a week for four weeks starting 23 November plus postage

All materials are included to make your hanging (paper pattern, fabric, backing, batting, Gutermann thread, DMC thread, DMC hand sewing needles, embroidered flames complete with brooch back). Finished size 18½” square.

Registration must be in by Sunday 22 November to ensure your hanging pack arrives in a timely manner. Kits are limited so get in quick to secure yours.
