About the Event

Sashiko is a beautiful form of functional embroidery that originated in Japan. Traditionally used to reinforce and repair, this stitching uses a simple running stitch to create intricate geometric and natural motifs. Nowadays it is revered for its beauty and simplicity as well as its versatility – on quilts, runners, cushions, placemats, coasters etc.

Come and learn Sashiko while working on your own sampler mug rug. Learn about its history, different patterns and motifs, and how to make and trace your own patterns (without templates). This is a hands-on, relaxed, learn-at-your-own-pace class that will give you the confidence to continue working with Sashiko.

Early registration is important as we keep our class sizes to a maximum of six. Or better yet, get a group of three or more together and we can arrange a date to suit you.

Sashiko mug rug kit included – all materials for you to make your own sampler mug rug including genuine Sashiko needles and thread. Morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea provided by our in-house cafe Hazelnuts & Rhubarb.
